Careers and internships at Black Door Creative
A small Rhode Island team that designs websites and runs marketing for local businesses.
Who does well here
What the work is actually like
We have been building for Rhode Island businesses since 2005. The person who designs a site also writes for it, sets up the Google profile, and picks up the phone when the client calls in six months.
That means the job is wider than a single title. A designer here will sit in a discovery call with a plumbing company, sketch the site, write the first draft of the copy, and watch what happens after launch. A content person will write a page, shoot a photo for it on location, post it, and read the report a month later.
You will do well here if you like finishing things, if you can explain your work to someone who does not do it for a living, and if you would rather see a local restaurant fill up on a Tuesday than win a design award. You will struggle if you want to specialize narrowly on day one.
- Real client work from the first week
- A senior person reviews every deliverable before it ships
- You meet the clients, not just the tickets
- Work you can show, with the client's name on it
Roles
The roles we hire for
Openings change through the year. Send a note with what you do and links to your work, and we will tell you straight whether there is a fit now or later.
Internships
Internships in web design and marketing
An internship here is not a semester of making coffee and mood boards. You work on live client projects alongside the team, with a senior person reviewing your work before it goes anywhere.
We offer internships across the work we do: web design, content and copywriting, social media, photo and video, and SEO. You will get a real project early, sized to what you can handle, and the size grows as you show what you can do.
By the end you leave with work in your portfolio that shipped for a named Rhode Island business: pages that are live, posts that ran, a report a client read. That is worth more than a certificate, and it is what the next employer will ask to see.
