Restaurants
Restaurant Marketing and Web Design in Rhode Island
Websites, photography, social and search for Rhode Island restaurants, bars, caterers and nightlife.
Nobody opens a restaurant because they wanted to run a website. But the website is where most of your covers start now. Someone pulls up the menu on a phone, squints at the photos, checks whether you are open, and decides in under a minute whether they are coming in. If the menu is a PDF that will not load, the hours on Google are from last winter, and the photos make the food look gray, they pick somewhere else and you never know you lost them.
The website is only the start of it. Delivery apps take a bite of every order they send you. Saturday sells itself while Tuesday sits half empty. The Instagram account has not been fed since summer, and the reviews you know you should answer stay unanswered because you were on the line until eleven. None of that is a talent problem. You can cook. It is a time problem, and it is exactly the work we take over.
Black Door Creative has built websites and run marketing for Rhode Island restaurants, bars, caterers and nightlife rooms since 2005. Everything below is done in house by our own team, working out of Providence and Cranston, so when the menu changes on a Thursday you get a person on the phone instead of a support ticket.

Services we offer for restaurants

Restaurant marketing in a state this small
Rhode Island is a small state that eats out like a big one, and that cuts both ways. Your next guest is probably a short drive from your door, which makes local search worth more here than in almost any other market. It also means every room competing for that table is a short drive away too. Someone choosing between you and a place two streets over usually sees three things before deciding: your Google listing, your photos, and your most recent reviews.
The seasons move the whole state at once. Summer fills the shore towns and thins out the city, the colleges take a piece of Providence with them in May and hand it back in late August, and the holiday party season decides the year for caterers and private dining rooms. Marketing that ignores that calendar spends the same money in February that it spends in August and then wonders why only one of them worked.
The restaurants that do well online are not the ones with the biggest budget. They are the ones whose menu loads fast, whose photos look like the food, and whose listing is actually right. That is what every service below is aimed at.
What we do
What restaurants buy from us
Each heading below is a service we run for restaurants in Rhode Island, and each one links to the full service page.

Web Design for Restaurants
Restaurant web design is a narrow job with clear rules. The menu has to load instantly on a phone held in a parking lot, as real text rather than a PDF that opens in another app and has to be pinched to read. Hours have to be current everywhere at once, including the holiday ones. The next step has to be obvious and one tap away, whether that is a reservation, an online order, a catering inquiry or a phone call.
We build restaurant websites that do those things first and look good second, which in practice is how they end up looking better anyway. You get a site you can update yourself when a special changes, and you own it outright the day it launches. If you sell gift cards, merchandise, sauces or par baked product, our ecommerce web design covers the store side from the product page through checkout.
One word on the delivery apps. We cannot get you off them. We can make ordering direct from you the easier choice, and that is the part of the fight you actually control.

Photography and Video for Restaurants
Plates sell the room. It is the widest gap between restaurants that photograph well online and restaurants that do not, and phone pictures taken under a heat lamp at the end of service are the most common reason good food looks average on a screen.
We shoot restaurants properly. Food styled and lit so it reads on a small screen, the room at the hour it actually looks best, the bar, the staff, and the exterior so people recognize the door when they pull up. Video comes out of the same session and gets cut for the formats you will really post in, which means vertical for social and something short and quiet for the top of the website.
You end up with a library rather than a handful of shots, so the next month of posts, the next menu update and the next ad campaign all have something to use. If you have never had a proper shoot, this is usually the service that changes the most.

Social Media Marketing for Restaurants
For a restaurant, social is not marketing. It is the window. People check the feed the way they used to walk past and look in, and an account that has not posted since summer reads as closed.
We run the account so it stops being the job that gets skipped on a busy Friday. That means a planned calendar instead of whatever turns up in the camera roll, posts written in your voice, stories and reels cut from the photo and video shoot, and a person answering the comments and the messages that turn into bookings. Paid social sits on top of that when there is something worth pushing: a new menu, a soft Tuesday, a holiday booking window that is about to close.
Specials, events, live music and private dining are the posts that actually move covers. They are also the ones that never get posted when the room is full. That is the part we take off you.

SEO for Restaurants
Restaurant SEO is mostly local SEO, and local SEO for a restaurant is mostly your Google Business Profile. Hungry people search a cuisine, a town, or just "near me", and the map pack answers them before anyone opens a website. Getting picked there comes down to categories set correctly, hours that are current, real photos added regularly, a steady flow of reviews with replies, and a website that backs all of it up.
The website half is the part most restaurants skip. Menu pages as text rather than an image. A real page for each thing you want to be found for: catering, private events, function rooms, the neighborhood you are actually in. Written for a person and readable by a machine, which is also what gets you quoted when someone asks an AI assistant where to eat, a growing share of how people decide now.
SEO is not fast. An SEO campaign can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months to begin ranking, and we say so before you sign rather than after.

Google Ads for Restaurants
Google Ads is what you reach for when you need covers this month rather than next season. For a restaurant it works best pointed at something specific: catering, private events, a function room, a holiday menu, a new location, or the weeks you already know run soft.
We keep the radius tight, because paying for clicks from the other end of the state is how restaurant ad budgets disappear. We write the ads, build the page they land on, and track calls and reservation clicks back to the keyword that produced them, so you can see what a booking actually costs you. Then we turn the spend up for the weekends that matter and down when the room fills itself.
Most restaurants do not need paid search running all year. Knowing which months to run it is most of the value.

Digital Marketing for Restaurants
Most restaurants land here once the website is live, because the work that keeps a dining room full is monthly work, not a project. One team on the search, the ads, the social, the email list and the reviews. One plan. One report a month, written in plain English.
The email list is the piece restaurants most often own and least often use. It is the only audience you are not renting, and it is the difference between announcing a new menu and hoping people happen to see it. Reputation management is the other piece: replies to the reviews you have been meaning to answer since March, and a habit of asking happy guests at the moment they are happiest.
It all runs through one point of contact, so you are not explaining the same thing to four vendors who do not talk to each other.

Branding and Logo Design for Restaurants
A restaurant brand has to survive a sign over the door, a paper menu, a phone screen the size of a thumbnail and a printed cup. Plenty of the marks we are asked to redraw fail at least one of those, and that is the test we design to.
New rooms get the whole thing built from scratch: name, logo, type, color, menu design, signage art and the profile image that shows up in the map pack. Rooms that have been open for years usually need something gentler. We keep what regulars already recognize and fix what has gone soft, because throwing away a name a neighborhood knows is rarely the right call.
We have also done mural and interior art for dining rooms, so the brand carries from the plate to the wall instead of stopping at the website.
Reviews from our clients
Verbatim from our Google Business Profile. Names are real and you can look every one of them up.
Rob at Black Door Creative has restored my faith in the digital marketing sector. Rob created an entirely new website in 3 weeks. His experience, creativeness and willingness to work with small businesses is truly impressive.
SOS Plumbing & Heating has been working with Rob at Black Door Creative for almost a year, and the experience has been excellent. They've handled everything from our marketing and website to improving our day-to-day customer flow. It depends on how many pages you need, whether you are taking orders or reservations through the site, and whether we are shooting the photography too. Our web design page carries the starting point in writing, and we quote the rest before any work begins. You will never get an invoice for something you did not approve.
Yes, and that is the order we prefer. A new site built around real photographs of your food and your room is a completely different object from the same site built around whatever was on the phone. We schedule the shoot early so the design has something to be designed around.
Bars, caterers, nightclubs, function rooms, breweries and food trucks all fit here. Caterers in particular are their own kind of job, because the buying decision is planned weeks ahead and the website has to answer a much longer list of questions before anyone picks up the phone.
Whichever you prefer. We build the menu so you can change a price or pull an item yourself in a couple of minutes without calling anyone, and if you would rather not touch it, menu updates are part of the monthly digital marketing plan.
Different parts land at different speeds. A new website and fresh photography change how people react the day they go live. Paid search can bring calls in the first week. Local SEO is the slow one, usually 2 to 6 months before rankings move. Anyone promising you page one next month is guessing.
Why us
Why Rhode Island restaurants hire a local agency
We are in Rhode Island, we eat in these rooms, and we have been building for restaurants here since 2005. That matters more than it sounds. An agency in another state does not know that the shore towns and the city run on opposite calendars, or that a Thursday in October is a different business from a Thursday in July.
It also means you get a person. When the menu changes, when the room needs reshooting, or when a review needs an answer before service, you are calling someone who has been in your dining room rather than opening a ticket. Everything here is done in house by our own team, the photography and the code both.
Every restaurant project we have shipped is in the portfolio, named, so you can go look at the work instead of taking our word for it. Call (401) 339-4155 or start a project and tell us which nights are soft.
